I use it to think about things...
Fictional things...
Thats how i found out how a real lightsaber would work!
The lightsaber is not really light, it just emits light. The blade itself is actualy a coil of heat sensitive wires that expand out of the sheath when introduced to a form of energy. So when the Saber is turned on, your puting power through the wires causing them to change shape, not just making a realy cool sound and a shaft of light come out of the sheath. This also explains why the saber has a limited range. So the longer the containment area for the wires is in the sheath, the longer the blade can be. The sound is caused by the wires spining in a counterclockwise manner, forcing air through the middle of the blade and out the top of it. The air is becomeing energized as it passes by the wires and lets of the excess energy in the form of heat which also causes the air to hum, hence the Saber hums even when you arnt moving it. The wires dont become tangeled when two sabers clash because they are spinning so fast and are so close together, so the wires from other Lightsabers wont get caught in your Saber. When the power is cut to the wires they cool down very rapidly and compress back into the sheath for later use.
